Dr Michael Holt is an inspiration,
whose story has touched the hearts of everyone who hears it. A man
who in the face of adversity has shown strength, determination and
courage to overcome obstacles some of us can only imagine.
His humility and raw honesty makes him
a rare and exceptional individual. This together with outstanding
communication skills and extraordinary intellect provides the
audience with a presentation, which "makes a difference" and that
is what Dr Michael Holt would seek to do.
Dr Holt is an Orthopaedic Surgeon, who
had a brilliant career. At the young age of 31 he was Director of
Orthopaedics at the Royal Brisbane Hospital - which is the largest
hospital in the Southern Hemisphere.
He has worked internationally in some
of the top hospitals, with some of the most renowned surgeons in the
world. He has an international reputation.
At the peak of his career he was
tragically struck by a car and suffered extensive injuries which
included a broken spine, loss of sight in one eye, loss of hearing.
He was in intensive care for over 3 weeks. He was now the patient.
On two occasions he was a heartbeat
away from death.
How could such an event not change your life?
This story, is not just a story about
physical rehabilitation, this story is about someone who is fighting
very hard to get their old life back which includes working again as
an orthopaedic surgeon.
He is and always has been an
extraordinary high achiever, so second best is never good
enough.
Dr Holt's story is unprecedented in
the medical community. Part of his rehabilitation was back at the
hospital where he was once Director, being supervised by people whom
he had once taught.
Dr Holt gives us a very personal
insight into how this accident has changed his life and how his
passion for healing others helped him to heal himself. He talks
about the physical, emotional and financial aspects of his journey as
well as the goodness of the human spirit and how that helped him.
His presentation has been described as
"powerful, very inspirational and motivational" but articulated
in an "entertaining, down to earth" style, with a touch of
humour.
Dr Holt does not seek fame from his
misfortune, but because people are interested in inspirational real
life stories he is being invited to tell his story again and again.
